A key part of Avantes mission statement refers to our commitment to helping to save our planet and its finite resources for generations to come. Environmental monitoring is one way that we are able to pursue our mission directly through our technology solutions. Researchers and consumers around the world rely on Avantes instruments to perform their measurements of water, air, refuse, soil and sludge to safeguard the environment for future generations. Avantes small form factor instruments are designed to perform in harsh environments while still providing reliable and accurate measurements.
CEMS
Continuous emission monitoring (CEM), also called differential optical absorption spectroscopy or (DOAS), is a technique of gas monitoring used extensively in the developing world to monitor NOx and SOx pollutants in the atmospheric air to gauge air quality. Avantes instruments are integrated into a variety of CEMS monitoring systems around the world. Due to the high stability requirements of this technique, any of the Avantes thermo-electrically cooled spectrometers are used in this application.
Water Quality
Water pollution and contaminants are being measured using ultra-violet absorbance and fluorescence techniques by a variety of researchers. The AvaSpec Mini in our Compactline offers a great solution for water quality measurements in an instrument which can easily be integrated into a handheld device.
Recycling
Classification of recycled materials such as plastics at Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs) is another application for the Avantes line of instruments where near-infrared spectroscopy can be used to identify contamination and provide positive classification during sorting.
Agriculture
In the area of conservation, Avantes instruments are being used in the measurement of sludge and soil to determine levels of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium. Additionally, Avantes instruments are used to support SMART agriculture where crops are measured to determine quality and yield on grown food products as they are being harvested.
The Atmosphere
Greenhouse gasses in air and water can be measured by Avantes instruments to determine air contamination and assist climate scientist with long term monitoring.
