Do More Expensive UV Insect Traps Use Better LEDs?
UV LEDs are commonly used in insect traps because certain wavelengths can be more effective at attracting flying insects. In this month’s Spectra of the Month, we used an Avantes spectrometer and absolute irradiance measurements to characterize the spectral output of two insect traps at different price points. By measuring their peak emission wavelengths and spectral power, we compared the LED characteristics of each trap and examined how their designs differed.
