Berto, originally from San Juan, Puerto Rico, with Costa Rican and Italian heritage, brings a wealth of experience and a global perspective to Avantes. He studied at Cornell University and the University of Maryland before settling in Colorado after spending 32 years on the East Coast. With over 30 years in scientific sales, Berto has worked across industries, including instruments, consumables, chemical separation, cybersecurity, and healthcare IT, with a significant focus on global business development. His career has taken him to every continent except Antarctica, and he is fluent in Spanish, English, Italian (his native tongue), and Portuguese. Now, at Avantes, Berto is excited to return to his roots in instrument sales, especially with a European company that aligns with his international experience and passion for scientific innovation.
Berto Outside of the Office
Outside of work, Berto enjoys life in Colorado with his wife of 32 years, Amy, and their two children, Alex and Casey. An avid outdoor enthusiast, he has a deep passion for skiing and has been an instructor for 32 years. His love for sports runs deep—he played football and tennis in college and stays active through hiking, biking, and camping. Whether carving down the slopes or exploring the great outdoors, he thrives in nature. When he’s not on the move, Berto enjoys listening to music, especially the Grateful Dead, which perfectly complements his adventurous and free-spirited lifestyle.
