Exploring Flower Reflections Across Visible, UV, and NIR Spectrums
May, known for its blooming flora and greenery, is captured in the saying “April showers bring May flowers.” As spring transitions to summer, May Day, celebrated on May 1st, marks the beginning of summer with traditions like setting up a Maypole, weaving floral garlands, and gifting May baskets. Historically, May celebrations like the Floralia honored the Roman goddess of flowers.
In keeping with this tradition, we conducted an experiment to measure the reflectance of flowers around our U.S. office in the visible, UV, and NIR spectral ranges using our new Spectroscopy Field Kit. This kit allows for in-field spectroscopic measurements, recording data to a tablet without detaching the flower samples from their plants.
