Case Study: Capturing a full spectroelectrochemistry experiment in a single measurement
Researchers at Auburn University automated absorbance spectroelectrochemistry by pairing two Avantes spectrometers with normal pulse voltammetry. Instead of stepping through voltages by hand and waiting for each one to settle, they captured full spectra from 400 to 2500 nm, plus time-resolved transients, in one run. Read how Dr. Christopher Grieco’s team put it to work on a P3HT polymer film.
“The ability to synchronize measurements between both Avantes spectrometers covering such a wide spectral range, combined with their sensitivity and rapid spectral acquisition rates, were crucial for capturing the full absorption spectra of our polymer films during electrochemical charging and discharging.”

Highlights:
- Full 400 to 2500 nm coverage with the AvaSpec-ULS2048XL-EVO (now the AvaSpec-ULS2048XL+) and the AvaSpec-NIR256-2.5-HSC
- Up to 200 spectra per second, with the demo run at 1 per second
- Revealed bipolaron signals that are hard to spot with the standard method
