Avantes Upgrades Manufacturing

Edwin Sportel – New Manufacturing Manager for Avantes

Avantes BV, the leading manufacturer of instruments for fiber optic spectroscopy and sensing has recently updated its manufacturing organization to better serve our customers.  Edwin Sportel, formerly the Chief Engineer for Avantes AvaSpec Compactline has been appointed to the new role of Manufacturing Manager.  Edwin has a background in Engineering Physics and has extensive experience in developing pilot manufacturing sides in the field of integrated optics, flexible photovoltaics through roll-to-roll production, and environmentally friendly thermo-chemical heat pumps. Edwin has worked at Avantes for 6 years overseeing the design and manufacturing of Avantes popular Compactline instruments (AvaSpec-Mini).

In his new role, he will be overseeing Avantes 22 Manufacturing employees including Manufacturing Engineers, Technicians, and a Data Scientist.  Edwin will be streamlining Avantes manufacturing processes and leading the transition of Avantes manufacturing toward greater automation.  Avantes Compactline instruments are manufactured using a proprietary semi-automated system which is based on a computer-controlled 6-axis hexapod providing for industry-leading inter-instrument reproducibility.  Upon announcing the restructuring of Avantes manufacturing and the appointment of Edwin Sportel, Avantes CEO, Pierre Warffemius stated “We are very enthusiastic about the changes that will result from our new Manufacturing organization; Edwin will lead this team to new levels of excellence.”
